Fighting for fair trade policies between U.S. and the EU
For years, corporate interests in the U.S. and Europe have pushed for a trade deal that would chill consumer, environmental and other protections on both sides of the Atlantic. Negotiations for a “Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)” have been on hold since 2016, but the push to secure this corporate-rigged agenda has never really gone away.
Big Tech is buying access to U.S.-EU trade negotiations through millions in campaign contributions and gold-plated awards to Trump, leveraging that power Big Tech companies, for example, have long sought to use binding “digital trade” rules to weaken Europe's leading privacy protections and anti-monopoly regulations, and to prevent future tech regulation in the U.S.
Now, Trump’s chaotic tariffs are giving his favored CEOs even more power to demand concessions that will harm regular people on both sides of the Atlantic. We are urging the EU – and the rest of the world – to resist calls to water down digital, environmental and other consumer protection regulations in the face of Trump’s trade threats.
