The future of trade must be democratic, rooted in solidarity, and committed to delivering on the broken promises of globalization: affordable medicines; safe food, water, and air; and the dignity for workers everywhere.
Donald Trump has made trade policy central to his agenda. In doing so, he has tapped into deep frustration stemming from decades of “free” trade deals, written by and for big corporations, that killed good jobs and gutted working-class communities. Without an ambitious progressive populist agenda for trade policy, working people will suffer more. And their suffering will continue to be turned against our immigrant neighbors, our international allies, and our own democratic norms.
