DOJ Probe Into Alleged Ford Emissions Cheating Highlights Need for Stronger Standards
Statement of Madeline Page, Clean Cars Campaign Coordinator
Note: Today, Ford Motor Company announced that the U.S. Department of Justice has started a criminal investigation into the company’s emissions certification process. The probe comes after Ford alerted federal regulators in February that there may be problems with its emissions testing. Ford has lobbied the Trump administration to roll back the clean cars standards. This move would cost consumers billions at the gas pump and lead to 2.2 billion additional tons of carbon pollution.
If we needed any more evidence that stronger consumer and environmental protections are needed, this is it.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Ford and the entire auto industry cannot be trusted to do right by the public or the planet.
