Enacting effective environmental policies to address the climate crisis is one of the world’s most urgent tasks – but international trade rules pose a serious threat to achieving climate goals. Rulings of the World Trade Organization (WTO) have weakened the Clean Air and Endangered Species Acts, and have forced countries to spend millions of dollars defending against attacks on mining, land use, and energy regulations.
