U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS)

The U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) — also known as KORUS — went into effect on March 15, 2012 with limited revisions enacted on January 1, 2019. The template for this deal between the United States and South Korea was the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), so it’s no surprise that this pact’s outcomes – including a job-killing jump in the U.S. trade deficit with Korea – have been damaging.
