San Antonio City Council STEP Vote Will Help Keep Texans Cool

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio City Council today voted to extend the Save for Tomorrow Energy Plan (STEP), which provides essential energy-efficiency incentives for customers who weatherize their homes, purchase energy-efficient appliances, and more. The program was set to expire in July.

DeeDee Belmares, San Antonio climate justice organizer for Public Citizen’s Texas office, released the following statement:

“The vote to extend STEP comes during a brutal, climate-fueled heat wave that has pushed energy demand across the state to new records, as Texans struggle to cool their homes. This is exactly why energy efficiency programs like STEP are critical to addressing our increasing need for electricity. While the city council should have approved a more ambitious version of STEP with increased funding to reach even more San Antonians, this program will help secure our city’s energy future.”
