Hightower: Time for a populist rebellion against corporate power

Author and radio personality Jim Hightower talks about populism with journalist Bill Moyers and how real populism differs from the so-called Tea Party movement. Hightower, who sits on Public Citizen’s board of directors, says populism isn’t about overthrowing government but taking it back from the corporate power that pulls the strings of government.

“We can battle back against the powers but it’s not just going to a rally and shouting, it’s organizing, and it’s thinking, and reaching out to others and building a real people’s movement.”

Hightower also takes a shot at the U.S. Supreme Court and it’s 5-4 decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which opened the door for unlimited corporate spending in our elections. Hightower called the majority decision a “black-robed coup by five men on the Supreme Court.”
