Surprise, surprise . . . guess who helped bankroll Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin into office? A: The Koch brothers. Now, guess who is bankrolling the counter-protest movement in Wisconsin led

by the conservative nonprofit “Americans for Prosperity”? A: Yep, you guessed it– the Koch brothers! As reported in the New York Times today,

‘The Koch brothers are the poster children of the effort by multinational corporate America to try to redefine the rights and values of American citizens,’ said Representative Gwen Moore, Democrat of Wisconsin, who joined with others in the union protests.

From their secret retreats, to their ties to Justices Scalia and Thomas and the now infamous  Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United v. FEC– the Koch brothers illustrate why Public Citizen continues to fight the influence of corporate power and ensure “democracy is for the people, not corporations.” Next Tuesday, March 1, Public Citizen hopes you will join us and our Story of Stuff partner in hosting a house party for “The Story of Citizens United,”

a short video to be released that you will not want to miss.  In the meantime, don’t forget to check out how you can help us fight corporate money in elections.
