Another Whistleblower Testifies on Facebook’s Threats to Kids’ Privacy

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Whistleblower Arturo Bejar, a former director of engineering at Facebook, testified today before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law. Emily Peterson-Cassin, digital rights advocate for Public Citizen, released the following statement:

“Here we are again, with another whistleblower testifying about harms to kids online. It’s difficult to react with anything other than anger and apathy. I am angry that Congress has let opportunity after opportunity go by without passing necessary privacy, antitrust, and kids safety legislation. And I am angry that giant corporations can break weak rules again and again without facing consequences sufficient to get them to change. Maybe this time will be different.”
