Senate Gives Up on Inflated ICE Budget, Goes Home After Failing to Reach Deal
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Republicans have punted on the reconciliation package which would add billions in additional funding for ICE and Border Patrol. In response, Public Citizen co-presidents, Lisa Gilbert and Robert Weissman issued the following statement:
“In a patriotic Memorial Day victory for regular Americans, Congress is going home without jamming through this toxic $70 billion for ICE and CBP’s mass deportations. Senate Republicans have given up and are leaving town because they can’t agree on how to deal with the corrupt 1.8 B insurrectionists support fund. We must continue the fight to defeat this cruel and corrupt bill.”
