“Stop Paramount’s Corruption Gala” April 23 at 5:30 pm ET in Washington, D.C.

Hundreds to protest against David Ellison’s dinner to “honor” Trump, Paramount-Warner Bros. merger

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Hundreds are expected to protest David Ellison’s swanky, invite-only dinner to “honor” President Trump outside the now-shuttered U.S. Institute of Peace HQ in Washington D.C. this Thursday, April 23 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm ET.

In a blatant conflict of interest, David Ellison is waiting for regulatory approval in his pursuit of a $110 billion deal for Paramount to purchase Warner Bros.

Led by Public Citizen, Our Revolution, Free Press, Common Cause, Committee for the First Amendment, Free Speech for People, Declaration for American Democracy Coalition (housed under Public Citizen), Democracy Defenders Action and MoveOn, the protest is intended to call out Ellison’s scheme and demand that the Trump Administration reject Paramount’s bid to acquire Warner Bros. Organization leaders among members of Congress and a few special guests are slated to speak at the event.

Watch the livestream here.

If approved, this merger would give one family control over CBS, CNN and TikTok — and the Ellisons have already promised President Trump that they would make sweeping changes to CNN. The deal would further consolidate an already concentrated media landscape, narrowing the diversity of TV news and reducing the number of major U.S. film studios to just four. It would slash jobs, diminish opportunities for creators, and reduce choice for audiences in the United States and around the world. This merger would hobble American democracy for decades and be catastrophic for free speech and free expression.
