White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles Subpoenaed to Testify as Witness in Federal Foreign Lobbying Criminal Case

WASHINGTON, D.C. — White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has been subpoenaed to testify as a witness in a federal foreign lobbying criminal case, according to a court filing yesterday by the Trump Department of Justice seeking to prevent Wiles from having to testify at trial.

The federal criminal case, which is scheduled to go to trial next month in Miami, charges former Republican Congressman David Rivera with a scheme to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act by lobbying on behalf of sanctioned Venezuelan businessman Raul Gorrin and to launder funds to conceal and promote Rivera’s criminal conduct.

Wiles was subpoenaed at the White House by attorneys for the defendant seeking to compel her to testify about her lobbying work for Ballard Partners during 2017 and 2018 on behalf of Globovision Tele Ca, Corp, which was owned by Gorrin.

After Trump appointed Wiles White House Chief of Staff, Public Citizen’s report “Meet Susie Wiles’ Controversial Corporate Lobbying Clients” revealed the 42 lobbying clients Wiles worked for between 2017 and 2024, a client list both extensive and littered with controversial clients who stand to benefit from having their former lobbyist running the White House.

“This kind of entanglement shows exactly why a person with Wiles’ lengthy record of controversial corporate and foreign lobbying clients is too conflicted to be running the White House,” said Public Citizen Democracy Advocate Jon Golinger.
