Vought Pays for Security Detail with Funds Intended to Feed Hungry Children
WASHINGTON — In the wake of dissolving the United States Agency for International Development, the White House Office of Management and Budget shifted the funding to paying for more than a dozen U.S. Marshals to protect Russell Vought, the offices’ director, according to a report from Reuters. The reporting revealed that $15 million was shifted to cover the costs of Vought’s protection by the U.S. Marshals Service. In response, Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:
“Russell Vought has literally taken food out the mouths of hungry children and treatment away from the sick and vulnerable—and now is using the proceeds to pay for what appears to be a platoon of bodyguards. Disgusting.
“This is cartoon-level villainy—except it’s happening in the real world and millions of people are poised to die needlessly due to the illegal foreign assistance cuts that Vought has engineered.”
