Trump’s Ballroom Billion Deleted from Immigration Bill

Trump scheme to convince Congress to authorize White House ballroom project and make taxpayers pay a billion dollars for it fails spectacularly

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the face of huge public pushback, today Senate Republicans released new legislative language for Department of Homeland Security funding that deletes Trump’s ballroom project.  The previous bill proposed spending $1 billion in taxpayer funds on Trump’s ballroom and related “East Wing Modernization Project.”

“Trump’s sneaky attempt to stick the taxpayers with a Billion-dollar tab for his Golden Ballroom exploded like fireworks on the Fourth of July,” said Jon Golinger, Public Citizen democracy advocate.  “Next Congress should reject the shady scheme to fund the ballroom with corporate and anonymous funds that invite pay-to-play corruption.”

This Friday, June 5, the D.C. Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments and decide whether to uphold a district court’s ruling that the ballroom project is illegal and most stop construction unless and until Congress votes to authorize it.
