Trump’s Antitrust Nonenforcers Need to Explain Themselves

Statement of Alex Harman, Competition Policy Advocate, Public Citizen

Note: Today, the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights is holding a hearing on enforcement of antitrust laws.

Today’s hearing will give the American people the opportunity to get answers from the Trump administration’s antitrust enforcers who have done too little to curb the power of giant corporations. At a time when there are numerous calls for antitrust action, this administration’s enforcers have been silent and opaque about what, if anything, they are doing on our behalf. Today they will have to answer for an out-of-control, unchecked tech industry, for astronomical drug prices and for politically motivated investigations.
