Trump Unlawfully Fired FTC’s Two Democratic Commissioners
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump today unlawfully fired the two Democratic commissioners at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, released the following statement:
“The removal of two duly appointed and confirmed Democratic commissioners from the FTC without cause both flies in the face of the law and hobbles a critical cop on the beat for protecting Main Street Americans.
“The FTC is an independent agency that fights concentrated corporate power. Public Citizen is appalled at this move, which will hurt workers and consumers while protecting monopolists. The only purpose of such a move is to further neuter the FTC, leaving giant corporations free to cheat and scam, imperil our privacy, and grow their monopoly power.”
