Trump to Meet Mining Execs in Scheme to Lock In ‘Pay-to-Play’ Agenda
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Trump is set to meet with top mining executives at a State Department roundtable, reportedly to expand the effort to acquire critical minerals.
In response, Carly Oboth, senior supply chain campaigner for Public Citizen’s Climate Program, issued the following statement:
“This week’s roundtable isn’t about fixing America’s critical mineral supply chains; it’s about continuing to lock in Trump’s pay-to-play mining agenda behind closed doors with the executives who stand to profit, at the expense of public land and public dollars.
“In the last 18 months, Trump’s actions have reduced environmental review requirements, opened additional public lands to mining, and strong-armed developing nations into signing unfair minerals trade deals. Any new mining project should be driven by real mineral need, not political favoritism, and paired with strong environmental and human rights safeguards, meaningful community engagement, and workforce development that creates lasting opportunity.”
