Trump to Let Insurers Defraud the Health Care System
Statement of Eagan Kemp, Health Care Policy Advocate, Public Citizen
Note: The Trump administration announced Monday it will scale back financial audits that are vital to detecting health care fraud.
The Trump administration has decided to give Medicare Advantage plans free rein to rake in billions from fraud by significantly reducing audits of some of the most widespread and nefarious billing abuses. These audits were estimated to claw back at least $4.5 billion dollars over the next decade.
Protecting the private insurers that threaten the long-term viability of Medicare instead of protecting Americans from paying for fraud is just another example of this administration playing favorites at the expense of the American people.
