The Trump Administration Takes Credit for the Longstanding Global Health Programs it Decimated
WASHINGTON, D.C. —The State Department will release its new “America First Global Health Strategy” today, according to news outlets briefed on the report.
Public Citizen’s Access to Medicines Director Peter Maybarduk issued the following statement:
“This so-called strategy is another cover for cruelty. It is incredible that while the Pentagon budget balloons to over a trillion dollars with Trump’s vanity projects and gross contractor misconduct, the administration picks out the critically underfunded needs of global health for slashing and blames development groups for budgetary waste.
“The State Department, shockingly, is cutting HIV/AIDS programming over Congress’s objection and full appropriation, but there is no “America First” when it comes to infectious disease. Trump’s cuts will save no more than a rounding error, but cost America its credibility, and likely millions of people their very lives.”
