Tax Negotiators’ Plan Prioritizes Handouts to the Rich Over American Lives, Public Citizen Expert Is Available to Comment
Republicans’ Joint Tax Reform Statement Signals Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Education and Other Essential Services Valued Far Less Than Tax Giveaways for the Wealthy
Susan Harley, deputy director of Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division, is available to comment on tax reform in the wake of the release of a joint statement today from U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas).
Republicans are working to establish principles for tax reform that may be released in legislative form as soon as September. The principles released so far are light on specifics, but from what is known publicly, it is clear that their plan will be very heavy on massive tax giveaways to profitable corporations, millionaires and billionaires.
Harley is an expert in domestic and international tax reform and open government initiatives. To reach her, email or call her using the contact information listed above.
