Sec. Rubio Fumbles in Senate Hearing on Trump Administration’s Mishandling of Vaccine Access, Foreign Aid Cuts
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, among a series of Congressional hearings, U.S. senators on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee grilled U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on several foreign affairs issues including the mishandling of global vaccine access and cuts to foreign aid.
Public Citizen has urged members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to demand answers of the administration on Ebola response and foreign aid cuts.
Public Citizen Campaign Director for Global Vaccine Access Liza Barrie issued the following statement:
“There is an Ebola outbreak spreading right now because the Trump administration dismantled the surveillance systems that would have caught it sooner. Rubio has to answer for that this week — the $600 million for children’s vaccines that he’s sitting on, the global health supply chain that won’t exist in four months, and the 30+ secret health agreements the State has not handed over even under FOIA.”
