Public Citizen Praises President Biden for Continuing Student Loan Pause
Advocacy and Grassroots Pressure Get Results
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joe Biden today announced the extension of the pause on student loan repayments (including 0% interest) until May 1, 2022. Remington A. Gregg, counsel for civil justice and consumer rights, said in reaction:
“On behalf of our more than 500,000 members and supporters, we thank President Biden for responding to the needs of 45 million borrowers who are not ready to resume payments. We will continue to advocate for cancelling up to $50,000 of student debt for all people because it will benefit the economy and begin the hard work of closing the racial wealth gap. But for now, we are pleased that everyday people have a little breathing room to pay for basic necessities for them and their families.”
