OSHA Releases Work-Related Injury Data Following Public Citizen Lawsuit
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to a lawsuit brought by Public Citizen under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Wednesday released summary work-related injury and illness data for CY 2019. More information on the lawsuit is available here.
“Injury and illness reporting is critical for identifying workplace hazards and developing solutions,” said Michael Carome, director of Public Citizen’s Health Research Group. “The data OSHA was forced to release will assist public health organizations to advocate for improved worker health and safety standards.”
“We are pleased that our lawsuit prompted the release of these important records,” said Michael Kirkpatrick, the Public Citizen attorney on the case, “but it is unfortunate that it required litigation to compel OSHA to comply with its obligations under FOIA.”
