Public Citizen v. Office of Management and Budget

On May 8, 2018, Public Citizen sent the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) a request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) seeking certain records it had related to a 2017 Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) rule known as the “Payday Rule.” OMB notified Public Citizen in November of 2018 that it had begun reviewing potentially responsive records. In December, however, OMB estimated that it would not produce the responsive records until January of 2020. On January 11, 2018, Public Citizen filed suit seeking disclosure of the requested documents. After the lawsuit was filed, OMB produced responsive records to Public Citizen, without charging any fees, and the lawsuit was dismissed.
