TCEQ Sunset Review – Reforming Texas’ Environmental Agency

Our Comments and participation in Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Sunset review

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is undergoing Sunset Review at the state legislature now through 2023. Sunset Review is an opportunity for interested members of the public to give their views on the function and continuance of these agencies.

Timeline of actions on TCEQ Sunset Review:

  • August 2, 2024: Public Citizen comments on Sunset rulemaking
  • March 29, 2023: Public Citizen testifies in support of SB 1397 before the Senate Committee on Natural
    Resources & Economic Development.
  • November 10, 2022: Sierra Club, Public Citizen, and Air Alliance Houston issue a response to the Sunset Advisory Commission decision
  • June 22, 2022: Public Citizen submits complete transcripts of the People’s Hearings to the Subset Advisory Commission
  • June 22, 2022: Public Citizen submits comments on the Sunset Advisory Commission report
  • June 8, 2022: Statewide virtual People’s Hearing
  • April 30, 2022: People’s Hearing in Houston.
  • March 29, 2022: People’s Hearing held virtually for Dallas area residents.
  • March 21, 2022: People’s Hearing held in San Antonio. Watch the hearing.
  • Dec. 20, 2021: Public Citizen joins forty-one environmental organizations to submit a letter with recommendations for TCEQ sunset.
  • Sept. 1, 2021: TCEQ publishes its own agency Self Evaluation Report.
  • Aug. 8, 2021: Public Citizen joins fifteen organizations offering general comments in advance of the TCEQ’s Self Evaluation Report.
