ITC submission regarding U.S. trade and investment with sub-Saharan Africa
On August 16, 2019, Public Citizen submitted comments to the International Trade Commission pursuant to its investigation on U.S. trade and investment with sub-Saharan Africa. Public Citizen urged the U.S. government to not stand in the way of public health. More specifically, the U.S. government should not promote rules that block generic competition or condemn countries for pursuing intellectual property policies that safeguard public health. The U.S. government should also not wield its trade benefits, including those under the African Growth and Opportunity Act, to coerce countries to promote intellectual property.
