Big Business Ballot Bullies: Reports and Resources
Public Citizen’s “Big Business Ballot Bullies” reports document corporate spending to defeat or support initiatives on state ballots on Nov. 8, 2016.
- A Netroots Nation presentation (Aug. 11, 2017) provides analysis of the impact of corporate money on 2016 ballot initiatives.
- A post-election analysis (Nov. 9, 2016) found that out of 37 ballot initiative races in 17 states where at least one side was mostly funded by corporations and business interests, the corporation-backed side was victorious in 23 (62%).
- A pre-election analysis (Sept. 28, 2016) of eight major ballot initiative races found grassroots reform efforts were outspent by corporation-backed campaigns by an average 10-to-1. A blog post on this same study offers a shorter version of the same analysis.
