Jon Golinger

Democracy Advocate


Jon Golinger serves as the Democracy Advocate for Public Citizen.  He is an attorney, advocate, and organizer who works to strengthen political spending and influence disclosure, increase corporate transparency and accountability, and drive Public Citizen’s advocacy around money and politics.

Prior to joining Public Citizen, Jon was an Assistant District Attorney and Investigator in the Special Prosecutions Unit of the White Collar Crime Division in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, where he led criminal investigations into public corruption.

Previously, Jon drafted legislation and ballot initiatives and ran advocacy and election campaigns for environmental, labor, and public health organizations including Sierra Club, SEIU, and the American Lung Association.  He served as the statewide Consumer Program Director for the California Public Interest Research Group, where he testified before the California State Legislature as an expert in financial privacy, credit bureau reform, and bank fees.  Jon also taught Election Law, Voting Rights, and Campaign Finance at the Golden Gate University School of Law, where he graduated with honors and served as Editor of the Law Review.
