Public Citizen Congratulates Katherine Tai on Her Confirmation as U.S. Trade Representative

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following today’s confirmation of Katherine Tai as U.S. Trade Representative, Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch, issued the following statement:
“Katherine Tai is the ideal USTR at this critical time because she’s committed to ensuring our trade policies promote, not undermine, our core values and goals for good jobs, a livable planet, affordable medicines, safe food and more and has the encyclopedic trade knowledge — from China to NAFTA to WTO and beyond — combined with strategic acumen, political skills and a steely spine that will allow her to translate her vision into action.
Katherine Tai has the vision, knowledge, skills, and fortitude to succeed in charting a new course on China trade and a broader trade model that delivers benefits to more people and rights old wrongs caused by decades of U.S. trade policies shaped by narrow corporate interests, including previous Democratic presidents’ trade programs that undermined their stated domestic goals of creating good jobs, protecting the environment, and safeguarding consumer health and safety.
