White House Page About Jan 6 is Orwellian, Distasteful
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Donald Trump’s White House has posted a page about the January 6th insurrection claiming it was “fabricate[d]” by Democrats, who were blamed for “the real insurrection” of “certifying a fraud-ridden election.”
In response, Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:
“This distasteful, falsehood-filled page exemplifies the length this White House will go to continue to perpetrate the Big Lie of a stolen election and to deny the violence we all saw with our own eyes. To go further and claim that democracy itself amounted to an ‘insurrection’ against Trump is an Orwellian gaslighting of the American people who believe in American people who live in a fact-based world and believe that our democracy is sacred. This president’s contempt for the people of our country will undoubtedly go down as a stain on our legacy.”
