We Must Pass a Green New Deal
Today Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Senator Ed Markey (D., Mass.) reintroduced a Green New Deal resolution alongside two companion bills to establish a Civilian Conservation Corp and deliver a “Green New Deal for Cities.” David Arkush, managing director of Public Citizen’s Climate Program issued the following statement:
“Climate change is the defining issue of our time. It poses an urgent, existential threat to the U.S., with impoverished and marginalized communities suffering first and worst. But we can fix it, and do so in ways that create jobs, revitalize our economy, rebuild our infrastructure, and boost the health and resiliency of our communities.
“We are pleased to see the reintroduction of the Green New Deal resolution. The climate crisis demands bold solutions and this platform will transform our economy, create millions of jobs, and deliver justice to communities hardest hit.
