Was Kash Patel’s Winter Olympics Trip for Work or Play?
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Do you remember FBI Director Kash Patel’s viral video showing him drinking with the US men’s national ice hockey team at the Olympics? We do, and we think it’s time there’s some transparency around his winter trip. Patel claimed that he was in Milan on official business, but the video looked more like a vacation than a work trip.
In February, Public Citizen submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to the FBI for records related to Patel’s supposed Olympics work trip to Italy.
“Taxpayer dollars should not be funding administration officials’ Olympic junkets,” said Public Citizen co-President Lisa Gilbert. “The documents we are seeking will show whether Kash Patel was working, as the FBI claims, or whether he was partying at the expense of the American people.”
The FBI responded to the request by saying that it would get back to us 2,010 days – more than 5 years after FOIA’s statutory deadline.
Today, we sued the FBI seeking to compel disclosure of the records concerning Patel’s trip.
