Public Citizen v. FBI

In February 25, 2026, FBI director Kash Patel traveled to Milan, Italy, purportedly on official business, but video showed him partying in the locker room with the U.S. men’s hockey team. Public Citizen submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the FBI, seeking records concerning Patel’s use of government resources for the trip.

The FBI responded to the request by saying that it would get back to us in 2,010 days – more than 5 years after FOIA’s statutory deadline. Public Citizen therefore sued the FBI to compel disclosure of the records concerning Patel’s trip.
