Tuesday Testimony: USTR is Wrong to Attack Germany’s Drug Pricing Policies

WHAT: Megan Whiteman, Access to Medicines researcher for Public Citizen, will testify at a U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) hearing on Tuesday addressing its Section 301 investigation into Germany’s drug pricing policies. Public Citizen submitted a comment on the investigation, arguing that USTR should not attack practices that the U.S. uses or would consider using to lower drug costs.
The Trump administration’s “most-favored nation” policy seeks to pressure other countries to raise drug prices based on the false notion that U.S. drug prices are high because other countries’ prices are lower. Exorbitant U.S. drug prices are the result of the unchecked power of the pharmaceutical industry, and Public Citizen’s comment urged the administration to drop its probe.
