Trump’s Set to Use Emergency Powers to Fast-track New Fossil Fuel Energy Projects
WASHINGTON — At a virtual address to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Donald Trump told attendees he will use the powers from his day one emergency declaration to build electric generating facilities to power the growth of artificial intelligence systems. According to the remarks, President Trump told attendees that the new generation systems can use whatever fuel they want, and his administration will not hold the tech industry to any climate targets. In response, Tyson Slocum, director of Public Citizen’s Energy Program issued the following statement:
“Trump’s fake emergency to justify fast-tracking coal- and gas-fired power plants to supply power-hungry AI data centers will expose American families to higher utility bills, spoil air quality. and gush increased greenhouse gas emissions. Trump’s continued abuse of emergency powers to enrich his powerful special interest donors comes at the expense of the health and wallets of working Americans.”
