Trump’s OIRA Nominee is a Gift to Big Business
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump is expected to nominate Jeffrey Clark to lead the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, released the following statement.
“Polluters and price gougers are undoubtedly celebrating the nomination of Jeffrey Clark to run OIRA. But the Congressional January 6 Committee concluded that ‘Jeffrey Clark stands out as a participant in the conspiracy’ to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election.
“At OIRA, which oversees the federal government’s rulemaking process, a similar manipulation of results will mean bad science, bad economics, and bad faith will govern the day. Public health, consumer, worker, and economic justice protections that do their job – and make economic sense – are likely to be dropped, blocked, or repealed to benefit Big Business profits.”
