Trump Threatens to Hike Americans’ Energy Bills in Feud with Europe
WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump issued a threat to the European Union, calling on European leaders to buy U.S. oil and gas or face tariffs, according to a post to Trump’s Truth Social account yesterday evening. In response, Tyson Slocum, director of Public Citizen’s Energy Program, issued the following statement:
“If Trump succeeds in bullying the EU, increased fossil fuel exports will expose American families to higher energy burdens, and make energy traders rich as they resell and redirect giant tanker ships carrying liquefied methane to China. Trump will force American working families to pay higher utility bills so his Big Oil friends can make record profits exporting fracked fossil fuels piped through American communities.”
