Testimony: Texas Railroad Commission Should Limit Oil and Gas Production During Pandemic
Commission Will Consider Production Cuts at Virtual Meeting
WHAT: Adrian Shelley, director of Public Citizen’s Texas office, will testify Tuesday before the Railroad Commission of Texas in a virtual public hearing on limiting oil and gas production in response to the coronavirus crisis.
Global oil and gas markets have too much supply, and the coronavirus has caused a sharp decrease in demand. The Railroad Commission (Texas’ oil and gas regulatory authority) is considering limits on production for the first time in 40 years. Public Citizen is urging a cut in production to respond to the coronavirus crisis and reduced oil and gas demand. Shelley will urge the commission to prioritize production cuts for producers and fields with the worst records of wasteful and unnecessary flaring of natural gas.
WHEN: 9:30 a.m. CT, Tuesday, April 14
WHO: Adrian Shelley, director of Public Citizen’s Texas office
WHERE: The public can attend the hearing online here.
