Statement: Steele Is a Champion for Wall Street Accountability, Climate Action
WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to media reports, President Joe Biden plans to nominate Graham Steele as Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Public Citizen experts issued the following statements:
David Arkush, Managing Director of Public Citizen’s Climate Program:
“We applaud this move wholeheartedly. Graham is a champion for consumers, for working families, for racial and economic justice, for Wall Street accountability, and for mitigating the climate crisis.
“The administration has been slow to fill several critical positions at Treasury and financial regulators, prompting a broad set of progressive groups to write a letter recently urging it to act more quickly. This nomination is an excellent response, and we look forward to more of the same.”
Bartlett Collins Naylor, Financial Policy Advocate in Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division:
“With many scholarly treatises, Steele has demonstrated the need for sound financial policy with thoughtful rigor.”
