Statement: AIG Fueling Climate Disaster, Despite Company’s Climate Action Claims
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Insurer American International Group (NYSE: AIG) today released its 2021 “Environmental, Social and Governance” (ESG) report, in which the company lays out its environmental impacts.
In response to the company’s report, Hannah Saggau, insurance campaigner at Public Citizen, released the following statement:
“AIG continues to gloss over its role in fueling climate destruction as a top oil and gas insurer. Through its underwriting and investments, AIG enables the dangerous buildout of oil and gas infrastructure, driving escalating wildfires, flooding, and heatwaves around the world.
“The company’s recent climate commitments don’t address AIG’s ongoing support for the oil and gas industry’s expansions. This report is more talk without any new action. And what AIG needs to do most is act to curb its harmful practices.”
