Sgamma’s Nomination to Run Bureau of Land Management Will Ignite Fossil Fuel Free-For-All on Public Lands
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump today nominated fossil fuel advocate Kathleen Sgamma to run the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management. If confirmed, Sgamma, who most recently ran Western Energy Alliance, a fossil fuel trade group, will be managing millions of acres of public lands and waters that belong to the people of the United States. In response, Alan Zibel, a research director with Public Citizen focused on oil and gas issues issued the following statement:
“Sgamma’s nomination shows that the new administration will leave no favor ungranted for the oil and gas industry and the wealthy fossil fuel executives who funded Trump’s campaign. The second Trump administration will be an all-out war on environmental rules and financial accountability requirements, and a free-for-all for fossil fuel energy and mining companies to exploit and profit from the nation’s public lands to the greatest extent possible.”
