Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Refuses to Take Accountability for Gross Mismanagement of HHS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a Senate committee hearing Thursday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was met with a fiery bipartisan resistance against his refusal to take accountability for his gross mismanagement of the country’s top health agency.

Senators grilled Kennedy as he repeated unfounded claims that vaccines can cause autism, called the former CDC director a liar and denied that he is preventing people from getting access to COVID-19 vaccines despite the narrowed FDA approval doing just that.

Lisa Gilbert, Public Citizen co-president, issued the following statement:

“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is not only grossly incompetent and unqualified to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but today he belligerently refused to back down from the terrible decisions he’s made so far. Kennedy has taken a sledgehammer to our health agencies and healthcare programs, denies the efficacy of lifesaving vaccines and limits the access of Americans to them and has repeatedly dismissed the scientific process and the expertise of certified health practitioners and physicians.

“The gaslighting, the lack of health expertise and the personal pseudoscientific agenda that Kennedy continues to flout are sickening and killing Americans. Kennedy is throwing us into a health crisis. Enough is enough. It’s time for Kennedy to be ousted from his position as secretary of HHS.”

Just yesterday, Public Citizen and more than 60 organizations sent President Trump a letter urging him to fire Kennedy and replace him with a qualified expert to lead HHS.
