RFK Jr. Consistently Misled Numerous Committees

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. misled members of Congress in hearings this week before the House Energy and Commerce Committee Health Subcommittee, the Senate Appropriations Labor-HHS Subcommittee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions CommitteeEagan Kemp, health care policy advocate of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:

“The dangerous actions of Secretary Kennedy, President Trump, and Republicans in Congress are killing Americans. Whether by cutting access to needed care, sowing vaccine fear, or allowing poisonous pesticides into our food supply, Americans are sicker and more likely to die unnecessarily than before this administration came into office.

“Kennedy claimed, repeatedly, that the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress passing $50 billion in rural health funding makes up for the $900 billion in cuts to Medicaid. The reality is that 20 million Americans will lose access to care from cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Despite Kennedy repeatedly yelling that there were no cuts to Medicaid, the truth is clear that hospitals across the country are cutting services and facing greater risk of closure.

“Kennedy also talked about health care fraud, missing the reality that the Trump White House and congressional Republicans are perpetuating one of the biggest health care frauds in American history – cutting care for Americans instead of taking on the corporate greed that is behind health care fraud and rising costs.

“Kennedy also misled Congress about the FDA’s recent fast-tracking of psychedelics for medical purposes. A backroom deal between Joe Rogan and Trump overrode the FDA’s typical scientific review process that would confirm safety and effectiveness.

“The dangers of Kennedy undermining public health were on full display. His life’s work to sow confusion about vaccines is creating chaos and hurting families. He showed disdain for the American people at every one of his hearings before Congress. Kennedy was a terrible choice for HHS Secretary and should be fired immediately.”
