Rep. Capriglione Has the Opportunity to Change Crypto Lobby Group’s Opposition to Transparency

The state lawmaker was named president of the Texas Blockchain Council today

AUSTIN, Texas – Today, Public Citizen urged Texas State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione to embrace transparency for crypto miners following the announcement that the retiring lawmaker has been appointed president of the influential industry lobbying group, the Texas Blockchain Council.

Adrian Shelley, Texas director of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:

“As the former chair of the Innovation and Technology Caucus of the Texas Legislature (IT Caucus), Rep. Capriglione should understand the importance of transparency and data collection in ensuring that industry growth benefits all Texans, not just big corporations and cryptocurrency owners. The Texas Blockchain Council has been an enemy of transparency, going so far as to sue the U.S. Department of Energy to stop the agency from collecting data about the cryptocurrency industry. In his new position as president of the Texas Blockchain Council, Rep. Capriglione can continue his service to Texans by reversing the group’s position against transparency.”

Capriglione declined to run for reelection and will leave his elected office at the end of his term next January.
