Lawmakers, Health Experts, Advocates Urge Congress to Pass Single-Payer Legislation; Audio of Telepresser Available
Members of Congress, health experts and advocates during a telephone press call Tuesday highlighted the national need for a single-payer health care system and called for Congress to act. The discussion of the merits of single-payer health care came in advance of Wednesday’s introduction by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) of Medicare-for-All legislation.
The call also featured nonprofit leaders whose members need and want single-payer health care. They outlined what a guaranteed universal coverage system could accomplish, how it would impact the health care industry and how it would reach people at all levels of need – including middle-income Americans, those who are low-income, living with disabilities, housing-insecure and many others.
Public Citizen’s experts are available to speak to the press about the single-payer system and Sanders’ Medicare-for-All legislation.
