Mueller Report: We Need the Truth and Nothing But
Statement of Lisa Gilbert, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Public Citizen
Note: This morning, U.S. Attorney General William Barr will release to members of Congress a redacted version of the 400-page report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
The truth. And nothing but the truth. The American people cannot fully determine the extent of Russian involvement in our 2016 elections and presidential obstruction until they have read the full unredacted Mueller report.
Barr’s spin tactic of holding a press conference before the report release, and in advance of Congress and the public’s moment to read and digest it, is emblematic of his lack of impartiality.
Congress must guarantee that Americans see as much of the Mueller report as can suitably be made public. It will never be enough to give Congress and the public Barr’s version of the truth, particularly as Barr’s reported briefing of Trump on the contents of Mueller’s report further calls into question whether he serves the people or the president.
We want the whole truth and nothing but.
