Invitation: Hit Pause on A.I.

A Public Citizen Conference on the Unprecedented Risks of Generative Artificial Intelligence Featuring U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu

WHAT: Please join Public Citizen and U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Thursday, April 27, for one of the first ever conferences on the unprecedented risks of generative artificial intelligence (A.I.). The known and likely harms from generative A.I. are too great for rapid deployment and too serious to depend solely on self-regulatory approaches.

ChatGPT and other generative A.I. tools have grabbed headlines, gained more than 100 million users, and garnered billions in investment. But they pose enormous dangers, with regulators far behind in identifying the risks, let alone implementing public interest safeguards. Panelists will address generative A.I.’s current and potential impacts on consumers, workers, social equity, politics, the media, intellectual property, corporate concentration, the internet, and more.

Limited in-person seating is available. Lunch will be served. The registration form includes an option to view the conference online.
