House Republicans Once Again Choose Big Oil Agenda Over Life-Saving Policies
Washington, D.C. — Today, members of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee announced they will vote on a bill that would bar Washington, D.C. from adopting California’s tailpipe pollution standards in order to regulate harmful air pollution. Chelsea Hodgkins, a senior EV policy advocate with Public Citizen, issued the following statement in response:
“Instead of focusing on real problems, like getting the budget over the finish line, the far-right is yet again prioritizing attacking democratic, life-saving policies in favor of an agenda that props up Big Oil and kills our planet.
“This specific attempt also undermines DC’s sovereignty. District residents and the Council widely supported the ACC II rules because of the clear benefits: reducing, by more than half in the next 6 years, the tailpipe pollution causing asthma and other respiratory issues in our communities. While we expect their attempt to fail, we refuse to let Republicans attack our health and our rights without forceful, public rebuke.”
