Americans Want an Aggressive Crackdown on AI
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Poll after poll shows Republican, Independent, and Democratic voters overwhelmingly support a draconian crackdown on AI and the corrupt tech giants forcing it on us. Public opinion has turned even more sharply against AI and Big Tech in the last few years, as their abuses and harms have become more evident, according to a memo compiled by Public Citizen.
Across party lines, voters have unanimously rejected Silicon Valley’s sales pitch for self-regulation. In the most recent surveys, voters consistently express alarm that AI will hurt our economy, kill jobs, expose children and consumers to new harms, and cannot be trusted to make decisions. Not only is AI the industry Americans most want to regulate, voters in both parties overwhelmingly support state-level laws and rules, and reject efforts to pre-empt them, especially without tougher federal standards.
