Briefing Series Hosted by Public Citizen to Feature Global Newsmakers in the Age of COVID-19

WHAT: This Wednesday U.S.-based advocacy organization Public Citizen is hosting Dr. John Nkengasong, Director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), to brief journalists, policymakers and advocates on the ongoing challenges across Africa in accessing COVID-19 vaccines. In this first in a series of Public Citizen briefings with leaders in the fight to end the global pandemic and forge a path for a peoples’ vaccine, Dr. Nkengasong will address questions from members of the press following the first-ever conference to be hosted by the African Union on Expanding Africa’s Vaccine Manufacturing (April 12–13), and recent reports that the Biden administration is taking initial steps to ensure that surplus vaccines in the U.S. will be shared globally.

Public Citizen is urging the U.S. government to help end the pandemic by launching a massive global vaccine manufacturing program that produces billions of doses of desperately needed vaccines within one year.
